Pulls it In, sharpens it, and sends It back out

I am very pleased with this sharpener. I did not realize it would automatically pull the pencil in, sharpen it, and then send it back out when finished. That feature alone makes it feel considerably more advanced than the typical electric sharpener.

I have been searching for one of the older Panasonic Auto Stop sharpeners and already own a later box-shaped Panasonic model. I still prefer the weight and heavy construction of those older machines because nearly everything was built more substantially back then. Performance-wise, however, this AFMAT may actually be better.

It does a good job of self-centering and accommodates several pencil sizes without requiring me to turn a selector knob. More importantly, it is frugal with the pencil. My vintage Panasonic sometimes spends so long searching for the perfect tip that it eats away far more pencil than necessary. This one pulls the pencil in, sharpens it to a clean point, and in most cases nails it on the first attempt.

I did see a review from someone who burned one up in a high school classroom and preferred an X-Acto. I cannot speak to that kind of continuous heavy use, and I am not a high-volume pencil sharpener user. For my needs, though, it has been fast, efficient, and surprisingly impressive.

Been an engineer for a long time, actually had Mechanical Drawing in high school so have always had a love affair with pens and pencils. This AFMAT sharpener is the best pencil sharpener I have ever owned. My grand kids love it, especially the auto feed feature, keeps them from "over sharpening".

So, I have to admit, I had way too much fun with this sharpener. It feels industrial strength but looks super cute. It's a heavy duty machine. Straight out of the box, you can feel the quality. It's big, heavy and feels sturdy. It has suction cups on the bottom, which is great for a teacher's desk. It has a very large tray for catching shavings. Once plugged in, you set the dial to the length and sharpness you need. Now for the fun, you put your pencil in and it automatically sucks it in to the sharpener, sharpens it to the exact setting you picked and pushes it out. It holds on to the pencil until you remove it. You can sharpen just about any size pencil too, it senses the width. I have sharpened dozens of pencils so far with no issues. It's really awesome!

AFMAT has been my favorite sharpener brand for years, and this fully automatic model with 5 nib options just proves why. It performs every bit as well as the pricier sharpeners out there—honestly, often better. The sharpening is fast, smooth, and incredibly consistent, no matter which nib setting I choose. I love being able to switch between point styles depending on whether I’m writing, sketching, or sharpening colored pencils.
The motor is strong without being obnoxious, the auto‑stop feature protects my pencils from over‑sharpening, and the whole thing feels solid and well‑built. Even my cheap pencils come out looking crisp and professional. It’s one of those tools that just works flawlessly every time, which is exactly why AFMAT continues to be my go‑to brand.

OK, listen...I freely admit this makes me a traditionalist and some would probably say a nerd, too, but I love using good quality pencils over pens. I take my notes with them and use them daily in my work. Over the years, I've tried MANY different types, brands, and styles of pencil sharpeners and I eventually transitioned to using mechanical pencils because I became frustrated that I couldn't find a sharpener that worked well and reliably on manual pencils. When I had the opportunity to try this AFMAT sharpener, I decided to give it a shot and WOW - I have found what I consider the perfect sharpener.

First of all, this sharpener is sturdy. This is a heavy duty piece that has suction cup feet to stay in place on a table or countertop. It is large with a generously sized cup to capture the shavings and it feels and looks well made. It has a dial on the top to adjust the sharpness of the pencil to your preference, which I've never seen in another sharpener and I like it! Next, it has an innovative feature that automatically pulls the pencil in once you insert it past a certain point, sharpens it perfectly in only a second or two, and then ejects the pencil back out. It makes this sharpener very easy to use and really foolproof. Honestly, I find it remarkable how perfectly this thing sharpens a pencil. One might take that for granted from a pencil sharpener, but in my experience, more often than not, both manual and electric sharpeners sharpen unevenly, leaving the tip of the pencil lopsided, with one side of the lead far more exposed than the other, meaning that as you use the pencil and the tip wears down, you run into wood on the "short side" before you've come close to using the exposed lead on the other side. I find it extremely annoying (yeah, I know - first world problems) and it often leads to the lead breaking because one side of it is exposed too far and with pressure, it snaps without enough support. This AFMAT sharpener sharpens evenly all the way around the pencil, even when you start from an uneven result due to a previous sharpener, and it leaves the wood around the sharpened tip smooth and splinter-free.

Other sharpeners may work okay on some types of pencils, but not others. I've used this one to sharpen colored pencils (which are often problematic in other sharpeners) and it sharpened them as easily and perfectly as it did a standard #2 pencil. I should have captured a "before" photo of the red pencil I included in my photos, because it was a perfect example of uneven sharpening from another electric sharpener. This AFMAT sharpener fixed that in literally 1-2 seconds and spit out a perfectly sharpened pencil (photos I've included have the sharpness setting in the middle of the 5 available options).

I think this would be a fantastic addition to a classroom, as the automatic feature reduces the risk of user error from the kids, it works super fast, and it's sturdy and durable enough to take the abuse and demands of a high-volume classroom setting. The shavings receptacle is large and slides out very easily for emptying. Finally, the blade is replaceable, so when it gets dull, it can be swapped out for a fresh blade to keep this sharpener going indefinitely. Can you tell I love it?!

Great to use for art pencils. Love that it auto stops when Pensacola sharpen and noise level is really good. It would have been good to show right side up as well but overall good product. Highly recommend for creative drawing.

The sharpening speed of the sharpener is extremely quick! It is a durable sharpener for sure. I use it in my third grade classroom and it takes a little bit of a beating. I have purchased a lot of sharpeners over the past few months/years and this is by far the best! The shaving capacity that it holds is excellent. there is no pencil that does not get an excellent point!
